Old Hot Rod Drivers

Postby AKS » Tue 19 Jan 2010, 16:02

Hi
:?: Just as a matter of interest and to generate some discussion, does anybody know what some of the old Hot Rod drivers from the 70s and 80 are up to now? Such as Gordon Bland, Barry Lee, Pete Stevens, George Polley, The Grimers, John Edwards, Ralf Saunders, Mick Collard, The Irish guys etc. It would be nice to know if the are involved in racing in any way.
Thanks all

My old man (John Close 555) packed in 1988.
He runs a garage near Colchester, but since packing in racing has been involved in all sorts of racing from track racing, karting and most recently full circle and spannering for my bro in Stock Rods.
I know Barry Lee was commentating on Motors TV on the autograss and spends alot of time with his little lad (Freddie) as he's a promising karter.
Is just the spanners, maybe one day......

Hi chaps

I found this the other night - https://www.silverstonerally.co.uk/inde ... sters.html
which has Barry Lee instructing the advanced rally School at Silverstone. I would love to do it - except I am not advanced in any way and have not done the baisic course and cannot afford to do both !!

A couple of other names

As well as Pete Stevens also Phil white and Steve Dance can be ound in the pick up series

Pete Winstone is racing a Rover Tomcat on the big circuits http://keithduke.fotopic.net/p62100716.html

Paul Sheard is racing Mazda MX5's - had a picture cannot find it now

Also Richard Wager was racing Mini's a couple of years ago.

All the best

Keith

I know Stuart Jackson is over the pond now, running a car spares shop (can't keep away from what he knows!) His Son Adam Jackson (former ASCAR/SCSA etc driver) has been racing Outlaws (Sprint Cars) for 3-4 seasons now.

Ian Pye (Midlands driver 70-80s) has spent last 12 years in Far East, and now has retired and returned to UK. Will be following the Chris Pye Motorsport Team in their Legends Car in 2010. There was a joke about getting a legend for him to make a return also!
